My favorite shots of the 2019 Chargers

This past fall I worked as a seasonal photographer for the Los Angeles Chargers. Below are my favorite shots from the season, along with a quick comment by me. I made these photos with a trusty sidekick, my Nikon Z6.

Untitled photo

9553 - Austin Ekeler sealed the game against the Colts in OT with his third touchdown of the day. After the game, I followed him over to the stands where he gave his mother a gigantic hug. I could just tell that the hug was a long time in the making. His mother reached out to me on Instagram a few days later and thanked me for the photo. The gesture kept me energized the whole season.

4190 - Keenan Allen celebrated his touchdown against the Texans by paying tribute to LaDainian Tomlinson with his iconic celebration. It’s an important moment between two greats and I was in the right place to capture it. LT was standing next to me while I took this shot and I was able to witness his reaction. I’ll never forget it.

6289 - Thomas David Sr., Desmond King II and Mike Williams spent an evening at Staples Center for a Chargers themed game. Photographing BTS moments like these beats photographing games by a mile. Also, LASERS!

Untitled photo

8844 – Here is Derek Watt, assuming the role of Long Beach VA Hospital staff member. Derek saw a gentleman delivering lunches to some patients, and without skipping a beat jumped and offered his services. The smiles in this shot are infectious.

Untitled photo

2929 – Same energy in the postgame presser after a big win over the Packers. Like Father, like daughter. I’m sure Philip’s other eight kids also have that same energy.

Untitled photo

4263 – Two subjects hundreds of feet apart, running back Justin Jackson and a LA Sheriff’s Department Super Puma Helicopter, share the same yet different moment as the National Anthem finishes in Week 15.

Untitled photo

5946 – If anyone on the team has the privilege to complain to the referees, it’s definitely 3x pro bowler, Walter Payton Man of the Year and 15- season-vet Thomas David Sr.  (Thomas was justified, and the call was overturned, by the way).

Untitled photo

5090 – Surprise Melissa, you’re going to Disney World! Being able to capture this moment when Melissa’s hard work paid off was incredibly encouraging for me.

Untitled photo

7457 - Derwin James had a strong reflex to the smelling salts he used seconds before kickoff against the Vikings. I would probably have the same reaction, not sure why the guys want to use that stuff… I always appreciate the players allowing me into their space so I can capture these intimate moments.

8424 – You’ve heard it before, The NFL is a brotherhood. The brotherhood is not always easy to see, but after every single game in the middle of the field you can see a great example. This was also my last frame of the season.
